Sesame Street and Divorce

Yes, you read that title correctly. Sesame Street and Divorce in the same sentence. I’m not referring to an adult version of Sesame Street where Bert and Ernie separate and divide property, etc. Instead, I’m talking about resources created by Sesame Street to help children of separating parents.


Parents frequently tell me they don’t know how to speak to their children about divorce in an age-appropriate way. Sesame Street has created videos and resources to help. One example is their e-book called Two-hug Day. The book describes the transition from dad’s house to mom’s house from a child-friendly perspective. The book is available online and allows your child to flip through the pages by clicking an arrow. Check it out here:

There are also videos aimed at answering many of the questions your young child may have about your separation and divorce. The videos discuss adjusting to two homes, expressing feelings, etc.


There are also really great printables for things such as explaining the access schedule to your child in a way they will understand.
